Chloé Mitchell was born in England in 1994 and raised in Kenya. She is the great granddaughter of an established and well known family of early settlers and grew up surrounded by the tea fields of Limuru.
Her passion from an early age has been art and photography in which she excelled at school and has now sewn into her career.
After leaving school Chloé trained in millinery in the UK with several well known milliners, following in the footsteps of her Great Aunt Dora and Aunt Dora’s mother before her. Inheriting her relatives’ stamens she returned to Kenya to launch Drop of a Hat which became a reputable brand for head wear from 2014 to 2018.
Chloe Mitchell Millinery aims to source as many materials as possible in Kenya and strives to be an eco friendly brand. Many feathers that are used are sourced from naturally molting poultry.
The brand has three ladies working with the hats and are trained to assist in hand sewing, beading and a few other aspects of the craft. In 2018 she decided to remodel the brand and relaunched it as Chloé Mitchell Millinery.
Making hats is a unique and time consuming profession and with Chloé’s hats everything is done by hand. Chloé’s workshop and showroom is set in the heart of the Kenyan tea estates just outside Nairobi and can be visited by appointment.
